Nathan Bishop

Nathan Bishop is an Irish traditional fiddler and experimental violinist and violist. A mentee of avant-garde fiddler Cleek Schrey, he is a sound artist with the Equus Project and a past artist-in-residence at the Mignolo Arts Center. He performs regularly with Fiona Tyndall, Patrick Clifford, maintains a residency with his folk trio Faoileán at Flounder Brewing Co. and hosts the monthly seisiún at that establishment.  Nathan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers University in 2019, and completed his Suzuki philosophy training in 2022 from the School for Strings in NYC.

Nathan performs with the Hunterdon Symphony and Orchestra360, and plays baroque violin with La Fiocco. He conducts Hunterdon Musical Arts’ Music for Youth “Saturday Strings” program, assistant conducts the Hunterdon Symphony, and periodically leads the Princeton Country Dancers. He was a founding member of Rutgers University’s “Women And Music” (WAM!) project. Nathan recently received a grant from the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission to fund When Waves Collide, an annual new music and dance collaborative festival he co-directs. He runs a violin and fiddle studio for students of all ages out of his small cottage in Somerville, NJ.
