2021-2022 Seminar Series: Join us on January 17

Our fourth seminar of the year, "Jacob van Eyck’s Variations on English and French Dances" will take place on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 7:30, via Zoom.

In this month’s seminar, in our online Seminar Series in Early Music Performance, Dr. Lewis R. Baratz will discuss Jacob van Eyck’s variations on English and French dances and songs. Jacob van Eyck (c.1590-1657), was a Dutch carillonist, acoustician, recorder player and composer, well known through his collection Der fluyten lust-hof, which consists of numerous variations on songs, dance tunes, and psalm melodies of English, French, Dutch, Flemish, and Italian origin, popular in the Netherlands during the Dutch Golden Age. Lewis will discuss the stylistic and interpretive elements and take us through the technical aspects of rhythm, articulation, and phrasing.
